Golf instructions with Larry, MRCP and PET scans
Busy last week. My friend Larry flew out here late Thursday night. We spent Friday, Saturday, AND Sunday working on fixing my golf swing. The running theme of the weekend was that I was a “stubborn as a barn full of old mules”. I can never leave well enough alone. I always want more. So, I was trying to take on too many things. By Sunday afternoon, Larry had finally drilled into my head that I need to set a new baseline swing and make MINOR adjustments from there. I had a great last session where I hit 20 or so decent shots. This is what I am going to work with for now. Thanks to Larry for not slapping me, or throwing things at me.
It was a GREAT distraction from what I had going on Monday and
Tuesday of this week.
Monday was MRCP/MRI at 3 PM at Moffitt in Tampa. This was done in an MRI machine, but I felt
the test was a lot longer. Thankfully I
am not claustrophobic, since it is a TIGHT squeeze in that machine. I was in it for around 30 minutes. They give you a choice of music, so I chose
Elvis. The station they put on was a 50s
mix, with every 3rd song being by Elvis. It just so happened that when the technician
announced to me that we were at the halfway point, “Little Sister” came
on. This was awesome, since that is my
little sisters favorite Elvis song. So,
in a way it was my Dad smiling down on me, saying your family is watching over
you.
Tuesday was an EARLY morning. I had to be back in Tampa at 7:30 AM. This time for a PET scan. This shirt seemed like the proper attire. The ladies in the lab pointed out that it would have been more appropriate for a CAT scan. The process of a PET scan is as follows. Go to get an IV needle inserted in your arm. They give about a 10 minute window to do this. My phlebotomist was efficient and got it on the first try. This meant I had a few minutes to wait around until she could inject me with the radioactive dye. About 5 minutes after the needle went in, she comes back with a lead box that has the syringe with the dye in it. She injects me and takes me back to a waiting area. There are a bunch of chairs, each in their own cubby. There is a curtain in front of every chair. I was given 2 glasses of water and told to sit and relax for 45 minutes. I was supposed to finish the water in the 45 minutes. I think I finished both glasses in under 4 minutes. So not sit and wait. I could play on my phone, but I did not bring my reading glasses, so that was not working. So I just closed my eyes and relaxed. After 45 minutes, someone came back and said it was my turn. So into the room with the big PET scan machine. This was nowhere near as small and tight as the MRI. I lied there with my arms above my head and the machine did its thing. I think the whole test was less than 45 minutes. By 9:35 I was already on my way to the car.
I am not sure when we get these results back, but I know
that Kelly (my Dr at Moffitt) and Denbo (the surgeon) will review the results
and get back to me. I go back down to
Moffitt on Friday to meet with the surgeon.
At that point, we will know a lot more of what we are up against.
What a perfect shirt. Fingers crossed that these continue to show a better picture.
