Carnival Cruise - Why not do a week cruise right before surgery!!

Just got back from my cruise on Carnival Celebration.   The ship was amazing.  There were so many places to hang out and there was always something going on.  There were tons of places to eat.  There were multiple trivia sessions every day.  They had 4 funny comedians on during the week.  The shows were liked/loved by almost everyone.  (I was the ALMOST that did NOT like some of the shows).

Our 3 ports were Amber Cove, San Juan, and St Thomas.    In Amber Cove, all I did was get off the ship to have my picture taken by the Amber Cove sign.  There really is not much to do there.   I did not even get off the ship in San Juan.  We used it as a day to explore the ship when no-one else was around.   In St Thomas, we took a ferry over to St John.  We went to Trunk Bay, which was amazingly beautiful.  There was a lot more wind than normal there, so the snorkeling was not as good as it was hyped up to be.  I would love to spend more time on that island.

Food comments on the ship.

There was a Shaq’s chicken place.  That was AMAZING.  I think I had it 4 or 5 times during the week.  Just the perfect level of crunchy skin, juicy chicken and the right spices.  It was my favorite.

Guy’s Burger was another great place.  On other Carnival ships that we had been on, this was just a small area just off the buffet.  Here they realized how popular it was and gave it a large area with a dedicated line space for 60 plus people.  Plenty of seating in that area as well.  Burgers were really good.  They probably could have used a little more spices (pepper, garlic or onion).  Overall, a good place.

We did not do any of the paid specialty restaurants.  But there were 2 that were free.  ChiBang, which was a combination Asian and Mexican place.  Sounds weird, I know.  We did lunch there, so we only had a limited menu.  That was in the form of bowls.  We loved all the different bowls that we had.  Cucina del Capitano was the Italian dining room.  The food there was great.  The meal we had, seemed to take forever, but the food made up for the length of time.

The main dining room staff was GREAT.  Deb and I thought the food was just so-so.  Not bad, but also nothing to write home about.

Show Comments

The shows were a bit too “artsy” for me.  A lot of prancing around, without actually doing anything.  Some of the shows were unique, and in all cases the singing was really good.

It was a great week to just be NORMAL and not worry about things.   The drive home brought me back to reality.  There were 2 accidents that caused us about 45 minutes additional travel time.  So, not the relaxing feeling of a vacation.

I am all ready for tomorrow.  Step 1 in recovery.
